Targets in assortments

For retailers that are configured with the Targets feature in assortments, you can create, manage, and view complex targets directly within an assortment to help guide your planning and avoid inefficiencies and errors when referencing offline spreadsheets.

You can build and manage multiple targets per assortments by choosing metrics and target types, then copying and pasting (or manually entering) entire spreadsheets directly into the Edit target table. Don't want to copy and paste? You can also create a target by uploading an entire speadsheet!

Note: This feature replaces the Plan feature if your retailer was configured to use that previously.

Creating targets

To create your first target in an assortment:

    1. Select the + symbol next to Targets in the lower-left part of the assortment.
Note: After you create your first target, you can add additional new targets from within the Manage Targets window.

    2. In the Create new target window, enter a Target name, then choose a Target metric ($ Total, Units, Cost, etc.) and Target Type (assortment, Dept #, Class #, UDA, etc.). Selecting a Target Metric that is not currently enabled will enable the Metric on the Assortment Grid.
Note: Retailers configure their own Target metric and Target Type options.

    3. Depending on your selection, more options may display, such as a values dropdown menu. In this case, you’ll also have the option to toggle on/off Show in-assortment values only, which filters the dropdown menu to show only the values that already exist in your assortment (i.e. for products you've already added and populated).

    4. When you’re done, select Next to go to the Edit target table.
    5. Here, you can do one of the following:
      • Copy values (numbers and decimals only) from an offline spreadsheet and paste them in the Edit target table.
      • Manually enter values in the Edit target table.
      • Select the Upload spreadsheet tab and drag and drop your spreadsheet to the upload dropzone.
Note: To download the template, in the Paste values tab, select Export values.

If you selected more than one target value in the previous step, you’ll see multiple tabs. Each tab has a table where you can enter values.
Blank tables show a column for your Door # and columns for the deliveries you have included in your assortment.
As you add values, totals will be calculated per delivery (column header) and per tab.
        Targets
When you enter a value, if one or more values aren’t compatible, an error message will display, and you can’t continue until you adjust the values in the highlighted cells to fix the issue. Highlight multiple cells and press Delete on your keyboard to delete values in bulk.

To avoid errors, follow these guidelines:
        • Door numbers must match active doors in your assortment.
        • You can’t include the same door number more than once in the same tab/table.
        • Blank cells are considered valid values if you do not have a target for a door and/or delivery.

          Targets

    6. When you’re done entering values, select Finish to return to the Manage Targets modal, where the new target will be activated. Closing the Manage Targets modal will open the Targets Grid, if it is not already enabled.

  2. Select the checkboxes of the targets you want to view in the assortment grid. You can select at the group level to select all individual targets in a group, or select individual targets one by one. You can also select targets from different groups at the same time. Use the search at the top of the Manage Targets modal to quickly find a Target by name.
  3. When you’re ready to view your selected targets in the assortment grid, select Done.
  4. In the lower-left corner of the assortment, select the target carrot Targets to view the activated targets. You can click and drag the horizontal grid separator to adjust the size of the Targets grid however you’d like. Select the carrot again at any time to collapse the grid and hide the targets. You can collapse and expand using the carrot as many times as you want without having to reselect targets from the Manage Targets window.

Notes about the grid:

  • Filtering the assortment, or hiding Doors or Deliveries, will update the working totals and variances for each target.
  • Each target you select in the Manage Targets window will display stacked in the grid.
  • Each target will contain four rows: Targets, Totals, Variance, and %.
  • These values will be calculated in the associated metrics column for all doors, nested attributes, deliveries, and totals columns that are displayed in the grid.
  • Adjusting your units in the main assortment grid will adjust in real time the totals and variances for the associated target that matches that product row.
  • When you update a value that causes the value of Target Total or Actual Total to change, the affected cells flash green.

Editing, deleting, and adding new targets

Also in the Manage Targets window, you can edit, delete, and add new targets.

To edit or delete an existing target, select the kebab menu to the right of the target, then choose Edit or Delete.

Targets

To create a new target, select + New, then see Creating targets.

  • Total
  • Target
  • Variance
  • Variance %

Note: At least one metric row must remain selected.

Manage columns

You can manage how you want to see columns for each metric in your Target Grid. In the lower-left corner of the assortment, select the kebab menu next to Targets, then select Display Columns. You can choose Collapse all in the submenu to collapse all metric columns into a single column.

When Collapse all is enabled:

  • The assortments grid only displays the first selected metric. If you change the order of which metric is first in the Metrics tab, it  will change which is displayed on the assortments grid.
Note: Turning on additional metrics in the Metrics tab doesn’t affect the assortment or target grids.
  • The target grid displays all data within the visible metric column,  regardless of which metric the target is associated with.
  • You can still edit units in the assortments grid, if units is the enabled metrics column, and see updates in the target grid.

Viewing targets in assortment rollups (beta)

Note: The feature is currently in Beta only for selected customers.

If you’re using rollups to review the buy across more than one assortment, you can view your targets right in the rollup if any of the assortments there contain targets.

The Manage Targets modal will appear in the rollup just like it does in individual assortments. The modal will display the name of the assortment a target relates to:

Targets in assortment rollups.

The Target Grid will show just below the grid, as it does within assortments. You can also choose to display or collapse grid columns and manage row visibility like you do for targets in individual assortments.

Targets will not be “rolled up”, i.e., if Assortment 1 has a Class 1 Target and Assortment 2 also has a Class 1 Target, these targets will be shown independently on the grid if they are both enabled. However, the Working Total, Variance Amount and Variance % will show the totals for all products in the rollup that match the Target Type criteria.

Note: Targets can only be viewed and not edited within a rollup.
