Assortment level fields let you capture and manage information at the assortment level rather than at the individual product level. This means you can configure fields like season, buyer role, and business unit once, for them to apply across the entire assortment. This saves time and ensures consistency across all items in the assortment.

This article explains how to configure, fill out, and edit assortment level fields when creating or managing assortments.
How it works
When a retailer configures assortment level fields with their CSM, those fields become part of the assortment setup modal. Buyers fill out the required fields when creating a new assortment, and can edit them at any time after creating the assortment.
Before you begin
Before you can use assortment level fields, your CSM must configure them for your account. There’s no standard set of fields; everything is customized based on your company’s requirements.
What your CSM will need from you
- Which fields to add (for example: season, buyer role, business unit, open to buy category)
- Which fields are required vs optional
- The field types for each attribute (date, text, dropdown, etc.)

Understanding field types
Your CSM configures which field types are available for your retailer. The following types are supported:
Date picker
A calendar control that lets buyers select a specific date. Use this for fields like season launch dates or order deadlines.
Free-form text
A text field that accepts any input. Use this for fields like buyer name or notes where structured data is not required.
Single select dropdown
A dropdown menu with a fixed list of options. Buyers select one option from the list. Use this for fields like currency where the options are predefined.
Example: A currency dropdown might include USD, EUR, and CAD.
Conditional dropdown
A dropdown where the available options depend on a previous selection. The options update based on what the buyer selected in an earlier field.
Example: A subclass dropdown might show different options depending on which department and class the buyer selected first.
Numeric
A field that accepts only numbers. Use this for fields like quantity limits or budget amounts where text input is not valid.
Fill out assortment level fields
When you create a new assortment, you’ll see the assortment level fields before you can proceed to the next screen. These fields are part of the creation flow.
Step 1: Start creating an assortment
Navigate to My drive and select New assortment from the “+ New” icon. The assortment setup modal will display, where you can fill out the assortment level fields.
Step 2: Fill out the required fields
Complete all required fields—you can’t proceed until all required fields are filled out.
If you leave one blank, an error message will display and you won’t move to the next screen.
Step 3: Fill out optional fields (if applicable)
Your retailer may include optional fields for additional information. These aren’t required to proceed, but filling them out provides more context for your assortment.
Some retailers use one page of fields. Others may use multiple pages if they need more information.
Step 4: Complete the assortment creation flow
Once all required fields are filled out, complete the rest of the assortment creation process as usual.
Edit assortment level fields
After you create an assortment, you can edit the assortment level fields at any time.
Step 1: Open the assortment menu
From the assortment view, select the kebab menu (three dots icon) in the top right corner.
Step 2: Select edit assortment fields
Select Edit assortment from the dropdown menu. This opens the same assortment level fields modal.
Step 3: Update the fields
Make your changes to any of the assortment level fields. Remember to fill out all required fields.
Step 4: Save your changes
Select Save to apply your updates.
Fields that can be configured
The specific assortment level fields available to you depend on your retailer's configuration. Common fields include:
- Season
- Buyer role
- Buyer email
- Business unit
- Open to buy category
- Retail brand
Your CSM configures which fields appear and which are required. There is no default set of fields. Every retailer has a unique configuration.
Error states
You may see error messages in the following situations:
- A required field is left blank during creation or edit
- A numeric field contains text instead of numbers
- A dropdown field has no selection when one is required
Correct the issue and try again. If you see an error that you don’t understand, contact your CSM.
