Video, 3D images, 360 images, and standard image photography requirements and recommendations

This article outlines the recommendations and requirements for media files for use on the NuORDER platform. Media files are used in the following part of the platform:

  • Product Detail Pages.
  • Pages leveraged to create Virtual Showroom or Home/Landing pages.
  • Linesheet, custom list, or custom exports in XLS.

Some specifications call out recommendations around file sizes, dimensions, or video lengths. These recommendations should be strongly considered to provide an optimal viewing experience for visitors to your portal.

Video

  • File type requirements:
    • .MOV or .MP4
  • Video quality:
    • NuORDER recommends recording video in HD 1080p.
    • Videos will be transcoded to 720p after uploading.
    • NuORDER will support 1080p quality streams and higher in a future release.
  • Aspect ratio:
    • Videos will be displayed in a lightbox on product detail pages or inline on Pages; a specific aspect ratio is not required.
    • Supported ratios include 16:9 / 9:16, 2:3 / 3:2 and 4:3 / 3:4.
  • Video length:

    • Up to 1GB in size per video, but no longer than 20 minutes in duration.
    • No required minimum.
    • Recommendation: Simple product video: 20 seconds
    • Recommendation: Product explainer video: 2 minutes
    • Recommendation: Long format: 6 to 12 minutes (note: drop off rate stays consistent from 6 to 12 minutes, then increases further after 12 minutes)

  • Video naming:

    • Brands are encouraged to follow their current image naming convention which is configured in the Image Settings page within Brand Admin > Imagery & Media >. NuORDER recommends a naming convention of:

      • StyleID (example: 2234)
      • Color (example: pink)
      • Number (example: 01)
      • Example: 2234_pink_01.MOV or 2234_pink_01.MP4

    • By establishing this naming of video files now, the same files can be automatically mapped to the correct products (for product videos) once the bulk upload options (i.e. Dropbox, FTP) are supported in forthcoming releases.
    • For more information on Image Naming guides, please refer to our help article on image naming.

3D images

In order to upload a 3D file to NuORDER, the file must meet certain requirements.

  • File type requirements:
    • .GLB
    • .gITF

  • File size:
    • Maximum of 40mb with textures included.

  • Maximum polygon count:
    • Up to 500,000 polygons in a single file.

  • Texture size:
    • Up to 2k for optimized files.
    • Up to 4k for original files.
    • For 3D files to perform optimally, we recommend only uploading mid-poly or low-poly baked files.

Exporting 3D images

As noted above, 3D files must be uploaded as a .GLB or .glTF file.

Depending on the tool you use to create 3D files, there are certain steps you must follow to acquire the right file type.

CLO

To export a .glTF file from CLO:

  1. Open the Main Menu, select File, followed by Import/Export, then glTF 2.0 (GLTF/GLB).
  2. Select the menu/tool indicated in Location within CLO.
  3. In the Save File window that appears, select the location path you’d like to save the file to and click Save.
  4. Configure any necessary settings to make sure your file matches the 3D file requirements for NuORDER then click OK

For additional support, view CLO’s support article on exporting .glTF files.

Browzwear

To export a garment as a 3D object from Browzwear:

  1. Open the Main Menu, click File, then Export.
  2. In the file explorer window that appears, navigate to the location you want to save the 3D file.
    • A file name will be suggested automatically when you select a location. Change the name at this stage if you prefer a different name.
  3. In the Save as type section, select the file format you want to use from the drop-down list (e.g. .glTF).
  4. Click Save and the Export 3D Object dialog box will appear.
  5. Next, edit the export settings for your file to ensure it matches the 3D file requirements for NuORDER.
  6. Click Export and your garment will be exported as a 3D object.

For additional support, view Browzwear’s support article on exporting 3D files.

360 images

  • File type requirements:
    • JPG
    • Resolution must be 72dpi
    • Must be saved in RGB color space
  • Number of frames:
    • NuORDER supports 4 or more frames per 360 spin
    • Recommended number of frames is 24 or 36 per 360
    • The greater number of frames, the smoother the rotation will appear. However at this resolution small imperfections are also amplified
    • Rotations should be shot clockwise
    • The 360 view will be generated when loaded on-site allowing the user to interact with the 360 images in the viewer.
  • Dimensions/ratio:
    • Images. Recommended to be at least 2000 pixels (width) at the longest edge to allow for larger image size when zooming
    • Each image should be compressed to be in the 100kb - 400kb range
    • Product Details Pages. When displayed full size the dimensions are 700px (width) by 1100px (height). It is not required to shoot or export files in this dimension.  Exact dimensions displayed full size on the product detail pages when viewed on the web are 700px (width) by 1100px (height), but brands are not required to shoot at this dimension.
    • Pages. NuORDER will dynamically size the image size based upon the width settings for the widget.
  • Image naming:
    • Brands are encouraged to follow their current image naming convention which is configured in the Image Settings page within Brand Admin > Imagery & Media >. NuORDER recommends an image naming convention of:
      • StyleID
      • Color
      • Number
    • In the case of 360 images, the NuORDER automated image mapping will be looking for the suffix “_360” to specify a 360 image and “_##” where ## represent the order the image should appear in the 360 view. By establishing this naming of 360 files now, the same files can be automatically mapped to the correct products once the bulk image upload options (i.e. Dropbox, FTP) are supported in an upcoming release.
